Where we work

PRORENA is active across the isthmus of Panama. The main project office is located at the Smithsonian facilities in Panama City, Panama. Small Field Offices are located at our Core Research Sites in Coclé Province and Los Santos Province. An additional Field Office administers the main project nursery in Colon Province. A second, smaller nursery is located in Río Hato.

Our field trials are concentrated at four Core Research Sites, which have been strategically located to take advantage of existing partnerships, and to include a broad range of the precipitation and other site conditions found in Panama. We also conduct site-specific field research at nearly 1 dozen satellite research sites, in which we pursue questions of particular importance to local collaborators. The majority of these research sites are located along Panama's extensively deforested Pacific slope.
